So Kyle and I watched our first concert of the summer! Well, technically it's not summer yet, but it's May and the weather that day sure felt like summer! It was about 80 degrees during the peak hours, and it was SO hot. The concert started at 12pm and didn't end until 10pm that night. We also had lawn tickets so we were out in that heat, and of course Kyle and I forgot our sunscreen so we were baking under the sun all day. We eventually had to wrap our blanket around us just to help our poor skin. By the end of the day, Kyle was walking funny and was as red as a lobster. BUT all that aside, the concert was pretty good! The day felt super long, but it was really fun! Kyle and I had a lot of down time to catch up and we were able to sit back and relax while listening to some good music. It was so packed for the amount of space they had and it almost felt like a festival with how long the day was. I only wish the venue was a little better because there were not much places to walk in between each set. I've watched concerts there in the past, and it's good when they're a few hours long, with only a few acts, but for one that's 10 hours long with about 9 performers... eeeek! Here was the lineup from the concert! Some of my favorites from the show were Walk the Moon, Passion Pit, Vance Joy, and Of Monsters and Men. Walk the Moon and Of Monsters and Men did a really great job interacting with the crowd and getting them excited during their performances. They were awesome! We actually attended one of 104.5 Birthday concert before in Penn's Landing, PA and that venue quickly became one of my favorites! We'll be watching twenty-one pilots there in September and I'm WAY excited for that!
Thursday Thoughts
Hello! I hope everyone has been having a wonderful week thus far. I have a few thoughts and links I'd like to share with you, this fine Thursday day.
- I'm kind of happy that the temperature is starting to drop again. We've been having some pretty hot days and I'm glad because I've already visited the beach a few times, but it's just way too early, I feel, for temperatures to be up at 80 degrees. There was a point last week when I was thinking "If this is how hot the first week of May is, I can't imagine mid-July." It just felt like summer was creeping in way too quickly. Thankfully, temperatures next week are looking to be around high 60s to low 70s, which is exactly what Spring should be. PLUS, it looks like there are a few showers coming, which my grass and flowers will be much thankful for.
- I am super excited that flip flop weather is here (well for me). And, I'm pretty excited that I'm back in South Jersey for the summer because that means I won't get as much criticism for wearing them almost every day until Fall. I have always loved Sanuks because of how super comfortable they are no matter how long I'm walking around in them. I have a few favorites but I've had these flip flops for a while and I LOVE them. It feels like I'm walking on yoga mats all day... what more could you want?
- The train derailment in Philly this past Tuesday is such sad news. I've rode on the Northeast Corridor SO many times these past 4 years to get to and from Rutgers and UVa. It brought me chills when I read this article. I can only image the terror and fear from this terrifying accident. My thoughts and prayers are with those victims.
- Check out this Austin City Limits Music Festival Lineup. Ever since Firefly Music Festival last year, Kyle and I have been on the lookout for festivals to attend this summer. We were SURE that we were going to go to Firefly again this year, but of course they removed Single Day Passes and we were forced to either purchase the whole weekend, or none at all. Ugh. We just went for one day last year, and it was both SOOO good and so exhausting. I can't imagine camping out and doing that for 3 or 4 days straight. Anyone going to any cool music festivals this summer?
- It is NEVER you're fault. "[Victims] are put through the wringer of having their credibility questioned, their integrity questioned, their behavior questioned... so that they are the focus of the investigation rather than the offender's behavior." Coming from a science background, this is a good read on what sexual assault can do to your brain. Take the time to read it, and stand up to sexual violence.
- I'm not a huge fan of flavored water but these look so YUM! I can't wait to give some of them a try this summer. What are your favorite combinations for some tasty flavored water?
- I watched Paddington this past weekend and I loved it! I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a cute family movie to watch this weekend.
- Yes, 12 reasons to visit the Philippines! GO.
I have a few projects and recipes lined up, and I'm excited to share them soon enough ;) Have a great weekend!
Barnegat Lighthouse + Seaside Heights
Kyle and I are attempting to make our way to all the lighthouses in NJ, and with the limited weekends we get to see each other, we try to make the best with the time we're given. As much as we love lounging around, we love going on mini adventures and driving to new places we've never been to before. It seems as if we have way more things to do/places to see on our "To Do List" than time on our hands. So this past Saturday, we thought it would be good to drive up to Barnegat Lighthouse and then visit Seaside Heights, which we've both never been to. Unfortunately, it was SO foggy when we got to Long Beach Island and we weren't even able to go up the lighthouse. It was actually kinda scary how low the visibility was when we were driving and walking the boardwalk. It was such a bummer because I wasn't able to catch the lighthouse beauty with all the fog surrounding it. They also had a strip right next to the lighthouse that extended out into the ocean and it would have been a killer view! I'm sure we'll make our way back there (when there's no fog).
After the Lighthouse, we drove to Seaside Heights and the weather wasn't any different. Once you drive outside of the coast, the fog clears up, but when your there, it's insane. I kind of liked the shorts + long sleeves-type weather, but we had places we wanted to see, so it was hard. We walked the boardwalk at Seaside Heights, and it felt like a different world. With all the teenagers wearing mesh snapbacks, everyone with all the same gelled haircuts, workers smoking while talking to customers, and the lack of Birch Beer... I was screaming inside. Thank goodness they had ice cream!
